successful sausage sizzle

A successful Sausage Sizzle is an organised sizzle

The famous Aussie Sausage Sizzle is a popular way to raise monies for community groups and charities at Sycan Meats we believe a successful sausage is an organised sizzle.  We have put together some helpful tips to get your sausage sizzle organised.

  • Is a permit required for your event from either the local council or local shopping centre ie Bunnings requires that a non profit organisation to apply in writing to hold a sausages sizzle out the front of their stores.
  • Your club / community group will need a copy of your Certificiate of Currency for the public liability insurance.  In most cases you will need to supply this with your application.
  • When you have confirmed your dates for you sausage sizzle make sure you let all club or organisation members know the dates.  You may even have advertising sub-committee.
  • Ask for volunteers in advance it is good to have no more than 4/5 people on at a time it can get confusing.  Maybe roster groups of 4 on for no more than 3 hours at each time.  We suggest that you have an experienced and willing cook, a worker to place the cooked sausages in a bun and give to customer, a worker to take orders, fetch drinks and take money and another worker to supply to cook with raw sausages and onions and keep an eye on the drink levels.  By allocating a specific task this will also minimise the risk of cross contamination ie food handling and money.  Maybe you would like to have “floating worker” to be available to promote your club/organisation they could also assist in rubbish removal and general cleanest.
  • Make sure that all your volunteers have the necessary food safe skills required.  Sycan Meats have a Safe Sausage Sizzle information handout that you may ask your workers to read.
  • Have promotional information available at hand and also display clearly your club/organisation and what the fundraising is for.
  • Have a printed roster available on the day/s with contact details of the volunteers.  You never know what will “pop during the day”.  You may need more supplies purchased throughout the day such as ice.    Remember if you order through Sycan Sausage Sizzles they are available to “top you up” if necessary.
  • What are you going to do with any leftover goods at the end of the day?  Are members going to take home or do they need to be stored at club rooms etc for future events.
  • Before your sausage sizzle arrange all your goods and equipment required.  We have put together a check list to assist you.
  • Do you need to record your sales and any unusual sales?  So you have records for your next sausage sizzle.

Arrangement of supplies – contact Sycan Meats they can arrange all your sausage sizzle needs including presliced bread rolls and will even store you goods over night if needed.

This information was prepared by Sycan Meats and is designed as a guide only.  Sycan Meats recommend that you refer to your local council for specific health and safety regulations and guidelines.
